How to Pick the Perfect Dress for Your Body Type
This is what every woman’s dream dress shopping looks like: you walk in, find a beautifully designed dress you like, try it on, see that you look amazing, pay and go get some ice cream. However, this never ever happens! In reality, you need to dig through many different dresses until you find one that fits and flatters your body. So, if you want to make your shopping time shorter, here’s how to pick the perfect dress for your body type.
If you have full thighs and hips and smaller upper body (or if you usually wear a larger size on the bottom than on top), you have a pear-shaped figure. You will probably look amazing in a longer dress, the one that is no shorter than two inches above your knee. A short dress will look like a tu-tu on your full body! If you want to add some width to your top, opt for horizontal stripes and bold colors that will attract attention to your upper body.
If you have a thick waist like an apple, your safest bet is to try to elongate your torso and pull away the emphasis off of your middle area. In order to do so, pick a dress with a drop waist and avoid thick belts tightly wrapped around your middle. Instead, get a subtle chain or sash belt that hangs loosely on your hips! Another thing you might want to do is draw some attention to your shoulders. For instance, a structured jacket that ends mid-hip will create an illusion of wider shoulders and narrower waist. You can also choose a dress that covers your shoulders and has some detailing that will bring balance to your figure. This is especially useful if you have fuller arms! Bell sleeves will flatter your upper body much better than a sleeveless or cap-sleeve dress.
If you have a little waist with string hips and lush bust, you are blessed with an hourglass figure. The curve your body creates is very desirable and quite easy to dress for because most things look great on this body type. However, your best dress choices should definitely be models that hug your figure and show off your seductive silhouette. Most stores that offer beautiful formal wear for women have open-back dresses and block color designs, and that’s something you might want to focus on! These dress models are very eye-catching and will emphasize your hourglass figure even more. On the other hand, an oversized dress that’s loose will drown out your curves and look less than flattering.
Women who’ve been blessed with a full bust shouldn’t be ashamed to show it off! However, if you want to achieve a nice balance, opt for dresses that highlight your chest but also attract enough attention to your bottom half. A mermaid dress or an A-line skirt will make your body more proportioned and seductive. However, make sure to avoid high necklines that will do nothing for your hips and put too much emphasis on your bust.
If you’re very slender and have few curves, you might have an athletic figure. Luckily, it’s quite easy to emphasize what your mother gave you with the right dress! Just look for a dress with a narrow waist and a bit of flair at the tail to add some curves to your silhouette. A mermaid style dress with a sweetheart neckline is always a great choice for you. However, stay away from column dresses that will further emphasize your lack of curves.
As you can see, no matter the body type you’ve been blessed (or cursed) with, you can always pick a dress that will fit you, show off your attributes and make you feel and look like a movie star!
